Ian “Dicko” Dickson
Who doesn’t know Ian Dickson? Perhaps you know him as Dicko? This loud n’ proud, bold, but utterly charming English ex-pat has been a staple part of Australian media since 2003.
The veteran talent judge returned to TV screens in 2016 on Australia’s Got Talent(Nine) as a judge alongside Kelly Osbourne, Sophie Monk and Eddie Perfect. He also featured in the Logie-winning TV series First Contact (SBS), where six well known Australians immerse themselves in Indigenous communities across Australia.
Of course, we all know Dicko as the ‘bastard’ judge on Australian Idol (Ten). The series first launched in Australia in 2003, with Marcia Hines and Mark Holden alongside Dicko. The show was a smash hit and Dicko became a household name.
On TV, Dicko has hosted My Restaurant Rules (Seven), Celebrity Survivor: Vanuatu(Seven) and was host and executive producer on Can of Worms (Ten). Dicko has been a contestant on Dancing with the Stars (Seven) and won Celebrity Apprentice(Nine) in 2012. Overseas Dicko was a judge on The Next Great American Band (Fox) in the US alongside Sheila E. and John Rzeznik of The Goo Goo Dolls.
Dicko is no stranger to AM and FM radio, having first sat behind the mic in 2008 when he joined Vega 91.5 FM breakfast radio in Melbourne (now smoothfm) and then on 2UE breakfast radio in Sydney from 2012 – 2013.
In 2015 Dicko made his stage debut as Widow Twankey in Bonnie Lythgoe's pantomime production of Aladdin and his Wondrous Lamp at the State Theatre in Sydney.
Prior to becoming a household name, Dicko had spent over 20 years in the record industry in the UK, working inside iconic labels such as Creation Records, Sony, A&M and BMG. Dicko has worked with big acts such as Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters and Pink and as Head of International at BMG UK he worked on the career development of artists like Jamiroquai, Westlife and Natalie Imbruglia. Dicko relocated to Australia in 2001 to become the General Manager of Marketing for BMG Australia.
As you may see from Dicko’s credentials, he has not wasted any time to become the fully-fledged, sincere and a lil’ bit cheeky music guru/bastard judge/TV host/radio host that we all know and love.
